Using Casual Window
Treatments
There are a myriad of options for casual window
treatments in your home. You may have more leeway with casual window
treatments than you would with formal window treatments because there are
more ways to dress them down and more color options from which to choose.
The appearances of your casual window treatments can be whimsical, tropical,
youthful, traditional, outdoorsy, flowery, or they may impart some type of
theme.
Even if you have a formal living room, you will probably prefer a more
casual look in such rooms as the kitchen, den or family room. You may even
have an indoor patio or other type of sun room in which you could use
matchstick or bamboo shades with or without colorful floral draperies. These
options will provide your room with a tropical feel.
You can also opt for shutters which will provide a classic appearance, or
will give you the feeling that you are on a plantation in the Old South.
Balloon shades provide a feeling of femininity, which you may prefer in the
kitchen or guest bedroom, while deep rich wood blinds convey more of a
masculine appearance, which you may want to convey in a den or library.
Other casual window treatments include soft Roman shades or woven wood
blinds, drapery panels with tab tops or box pleated valances. Brightly
colored whimsical prints add a fun touch to a kitchen, child's room or
playroom.
Kitchens are places in which you can impart a theme such as flowers, fruit,
farm animals. You can select shutters with valances with prints of fruits or
flowers, or use very casual inexpensive mini blinds with cute, colorful
curtains over them. The kitchen should be a sunny place and your window
treatments should reflect that feeling.
Fabric treatments such as blinds and shutters will not only be practical,
but control light as well. They are also easy to maintain. Bathrooms should
contain window coverings that are resistant to moisture such as faux wood
blinds or vinyl shutters.
If you want casual window treatments in your bedroom, you can opt for a
beautiful lace treatment that will not be too casual, but not formal either.
Since the lace treatment will not be energy efficient, you may pair it with
a soft shade that will have qualities to impede the sun's harsh rays.
A casual country style in any of your rooms can be conveyed with wood
shutter and lace sheers that will be more of an "upscale" casual look.
There are so many casual, comfortable options in window treatments today. It
is quite a daunting task to find the one that will look best in a particular
room in your home. While you should research the various options online, it
is a good idea to browse stores that specialize in window treatment, so that
you can visualize them firsthand. You are certain to find just the right
type that will complement the decor of your home.
