Using Color in
Window Treatments
Color is important for your window treatments. After
all, color is usually the most noticeable element in your room. It can
stimulate the senses and create an emotional response. Color can brighten
our moods or calm our senses; it can help inspire us or soothe our nerves.
You can make your window treatments the focal point of your room by
integrating the right color scheme. If you prefer a cozy feeling in your
room, choose oranges, browns or reds in your window treatments. If what you
want to project is a cool, tranquil feeling, then opt for cool greens, blues
and grays.
Selecting colors, and especially color combinations, can be time-consuming
and confusing at times. In fact, this is true for even the most experienced
decorators. The best color schemes should not be too warm or too cold, and
not too bold, yet not boring. Color schemes should be nicely balanced.
Window treatments are often the focal point in a room, thus color is very
important. Whether the color of your window treatments is a calm neutral
color or something more vibrant, it is important that the window treatments
complement the other components of your room (i.e. carpet, furniture and
accents).
If you opt for bright fabrics for your window treatments, you should use
plain curtain rods. On the other hand, if you have somewhat plain or subdued
fabrics for your window treatments, you may spice them up with more
elaborate curtain rods.
During the decorating process, you will probably decide upon a color scheme
even before deciding what particular window treatments to use. You need to
consider whether the room receives little or a great deal of sunlight.
