Guide on how-to-measure Measuring for Vertical
Blinds
First,
measure the width for the window. Then, add 3” to each side to make sure
the head rail overlaps
properly. Measure the desired length for the blinds. Make sure to add
enough room for the head rail.
If ordering floor-length
verticals, subtract ½” from the total length for proper operation.
Recommended for mounting outside only.
Measuring for Roller
Shades
I nside Mount-width
Measure the inside width of the frame at the top of the window. That
size will be the inside mount size. Most factories will deduct 1/8” to
allow for bracket placement.
Outside Mount-width
Measure the area you want the shade/fabric to cover. The shade should
overlap the window 1 ½” on each side for best light control. That size
should be the outside-mount size.
Note: Shades are available in standard lengths of 66”. Shade fabric does
not go to the end of the roller. It is approximately 3/8” narrower on
each side.
Measuring for Horizontal
Blinds
Inside
Mount-width
1” blinds need a window depth of at least 1 ½”, 2” blinds at a depth of
at least 2 ½”. First, measure the width between bracket locations at the
top, middle and bottom; use the narrowest measurement. Then measure
length from top inside casing to sill. On made-measure products, a
slight deduction will be made from the width ordered to allow for the
placement of brackets; see individual products for details.
Outside Mount-width
Measure width of area to be covered, overlapping window by at least 1 ½”
on each side. Measure to desired length from top of casing or at least
2” above the window if there is no casing.
Measuring for Draperies
Measure one drapery
panel for length and width, then multiply the width by two to get the
total width for the pair. Use this guide for replacement of draperies.
Measure the rod width, including the corners, and add 4” so the center
can overlap when the draperies are closed. Ready-made draperies come in
standard lengths of 54”, 63”, and 84”. To determine which length you
need, simply measure the length from the top of the standard (white)
traverse rod, or from the “eye” of the carrier on a decorative traverse
rod. Use this guide for draperies when rods are already installed.
